Cameron + Company Editorial Internship

Petaluma, CA

The Position

We’re looking for an Editorial Intern to join our team this summer to assist Cameron + Company’s editorial department. The internship will run from early June to late August. You will be expected to work in our Petaluma office around 16–20 hours a week. The specific dates of the internship may be flexible depending on your academic calendar or other circumstances.

For anyone interested in a publishing career, experience is a must. We offer a casual atmosphere in which the challenges of hard work and tight deadlines are met with humor and team spirit. As an intern you’ll have the chance to proofread, copyedit, write book cover copy, and learn the ropes of the book-making process, receiving professional development and mentorship that continues long after your internship ends.

Responsibilities

In addition to providing administrative support to the Editorial Department, the Editorial Intern will be asked to learn and perform a variety of functions related to the editorial process:

  • proofreading
  • consistency checks
  • fact checking
  • copy editing

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must have completed a minimum of two years of college or a post-high school program; English, communications, or journalism major preferred.

Skills and abilities:

  • Passionate about publishing and books
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Strong English-language skills, including grammar and spelling
  • Familiarity with using style guides, and Chicago Manual of Style
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Familiarity with MS Word and track changes a plus
  • Very detail oriented

Location

Must be able to come in to our office in Petaluma, CA, two to three times a week.

  • Must provide personal computer and smart phone.

Cameron + Company Marketing & Publicity Internship

We’re looking for a Marketing & Publicity Intern to join our team this summer to assist in Cameron + Company’s communications. The internship will run from early June to late August. You will be expected to work in our Petaluma office around 16–20 hours a week. The specific dates of the internship may be flexible depending on your academic calendar or other circumstances.

Our office is casual, but we take our work seriously. If you’re a proactive critical thinker who loves writing and thrives in a fast-paced collaborative team environment, we welcome you to join our team this summer. As an intern you’ll have the opportunity to write press releases, help to plan and promote book events, and receive professional development and mentorship that continues long after your internship ends.

Responsibilities

In addition to providing administrative support to the Marketing & Publicity Department, the Marketing & Publicity Intern will be asked to learn and perform a variety of functions related to the book promotion process:

  • Assisting with brainstorming, planning, and promoting book events.Assisting with tracking, formatting, and archiving of book reviews and other media.
  • Assisting with tracking, formatting, and archiving of book reviews and other media.
  • Maintaining and updating Cameron + Company’s website, and assisting with online promotional initiatives.
  • Assisting in the production of advertisements, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Assisting with mailings to media, consumers, booksellers, and other contacts.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must have completed a minimum of two years of college or a post-high school program; journalism, media, communications, business and/or marketing major preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional writing skills with experience producing blogs, articles, newsletters, etc.
  • Active on social media
  • Passionate about publishing/books
  • Attentive to detail
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt tone and voice
  • Meticulous, creative, analytical, and solution-oriented

Location
