Gwendolyn Meyer came to appreciate the fine art of photography while studying with some of the Bay Area’s most influential photographers at California College of the Arts. She is passionate about authentic culture, regional food and visual storytelling. Meyer learned about food and cooking in Big Sur, California while working in the area’s restaurants, including the Post Ranch Inn. This book combines her lifelong interests in food, culture, design and photography. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, she has lived in West Marin for the past six years. Her photography has been featured in regional and national publications including Gastronomica, Edible East Bay and The Point Reyes Light.
Doreen Schmid is a Bay Area-based writer, curator, and editor who has written an aphrodisiac recipe cookbook as well as for TimeOut books, the Los Angeles Times, Quarterly Review of Wine, LensCulture, Saveur, exposure, Appellation and other publications. She has edited art catalogues for the SF Asian Art and de Young as well as other museums, and books ranging from monographs to memoirs, and curated exhibitions locally, nationally, and internationally. Schmid is an adjunct professor of Renaissance-contemporary art history and history of photography who also consults on archival projects and exhibitions. Her teaching and writing on photography explores the confluence of history, memory, time, and image. A former line cook, she still spends time in the kitchen as well as beekeeping.
